Therapy Sessions → “Nailed him.”

I miss this show. I hate how much I miss this show. I’m pretty sure that my memory of this show is already tremendously idealized, and that if it had gotten a second season, it would not have been the second season I wanted. And yet, I still miss it.

Okay seriously though, CAN WE TALK about John and his dominant feed-people gene? We’ve got him cooking comfort food for Sofia in 2x03, making goddamn pancakes for Maxine in 2x05, not to mention him bringing Finch donuts and tea every other week like he’s Finch’s personal assistant, and now this.

It’s just — I really want the story where John goes into culinary school after high school instead of the Army, because he picked up the “people are sad, make them not-sad with LOTS OF FOOD” tradition from his mom, and he works in various kitchens all over the world and he gets a reputation as a brilliant chef, but then just as everyone’s expecting him to open some fancy hotshot restaurant in Paris or Tokyo or something, he gives it all up and buys a little diner in the East Village, where he gets bullied around by his bevvy of waitresses and his regulars all know about the sawed-off he keeps under the counter but they leave their kids or their dogs at the diner when they’re out running errands, because John’s good people, you know? He even has some cops stopping by, first for the doughnuts and coffee but they get to liking his omelettes and French toast, too, and everybody knows you try anything at Reese’s, your life is going to get miserable fast.

And then one day this fussy little guy with glasses and a terrible haircut sends back a plate. “The bacon is just a bit too crispy, and I’d rather the eggs be coddled,” he says to Theresa, who replies, “It’s your funeral, man.”

And John comes out of the kitchen, more curious than offended, because nobody’s sent a plate back to him in almost twenty years, and he meets Harold Finch, restaurant reviewer for the New York Journal.

Can I just say how much I love the idea of Reese as a nurturer/carer? All he ever wanted to do was protect people, says Finch - and I think that may include nurturing and caring for them. His job mostly doesn’t allow that - all his job asks of him is violence - but when he does get the chance to care for and nurture, he jumps at it. Pastries and tea for Harold, cooking for Sofia and Maxine, Leila - who he has to feed before he can go spy on someone - chocolate for “Caroline Turing” (also, John has a bit of a sweet tooth), adopting an anxious doggie, and even nudging a traumatized Harold to go out for beer. He just wants to protect people, in all sorts of ways.

1. I want that story too. Or can we make that stories, plural? I want that genre, basically.

2. Reese just is a nurturer, oh my gosh. He hugs babies. He tells scared teenagers they’re going to need to trust somebody someday, and then he gives them his coat ~~because he has no diner to hire them to work at~~. He holds people’s hands for no reason other than to make them feel better. He feeds people! He mends their wounds!

And then he goes back to defining himself by his ability to shoot things.

I just re-watched S1 Ep21 Many Happy Returns and had the most horrible thought/realization.

Harold probably knew Jessica.

Because from what we know (or at least from what I suppose seeing Nathans and Harolds Storyline) he got inured somewhere in early/middle 2010, but Jessica died in December 2010. And since Harold was treated (or at lest recovered) at the hospital Jessica worked in there’s a strong probability that she was one of his nurses, before she died.

And then that could also explain why Finch says “I’m so sorry.” after seeing Reese at the hospital, indicating that he already knows the connection John has to Jessica, which would be unlikely if he just had their numbers. Because Jessica might have told that silent and enigmatic patient of hers about the man she still loves, the one she was waiting on.

Oh god and Finch would have know what a good man John was not from his files but from what Jessica told him and the closer he gets to know John the more it would break his heart that he knew that Jessica was in danger and that he couldn’t do anything and maybe he even tried to warn her but he couldn’t do anything and oh god, I think it’s not healthy that thinking about this show makes me want to cry …

Harold had a file on Jessica and John and Peter, and Jessica’s number had been coming up since 2007. Also, Harold is somehow involved in Ordos - so I’m betting that by the time John showed up at the hospital, Harold already knew the basic facts, probably even knew that John had been at Ordos and what happened there.

So it’s probably not a coincidence that Harold was being treated at that hospital - that would be too much. One particularly wacky possibility would be that he was injured trying to save Jessica somehow, and he ended up at that hospital because he was in the area - but that seems a little farfetched, and the basic theory that he was injured at the same time Nathan was assassinated seems to make more sense. So my best guess would be that he transferred himself there, intentionally chasing after Jessica, possibly in an early attempt to save the numbers after Nathan’s death. The only weird part is why he would still be there - when John shows up, she’s been dead for 2 months.

But what about if/when John finds out??? It’s like the writers of POI are actively trying to torment us.

Actually, scratch that. They are actively tormenting us.

Now I’m wondering - Peter was in a car accident two months before he murdered Jessica, right? That’s such a specific detail … could that be related to all of this?

God, show, just tell us already!

(Also, how much do I love that in Wolf and Cub - after the kid tells Reese he needs a master - the kid tells Reese that someday he’ll find a home, and then 6 episodes later, Harold gives him one?)

Wait, where are you getting that timeline? I thought he killed Jessica, and then deliberately crashed his car to cover it up, a couple of months before John showed up? Was there a previous car crash I’m forgetting?

Apropos of nothing except the fact that I think about this every time I tag a post involving Jessica… it makes me so sad that the only last name we have for her is the name of the man who murdered her.

I mean, I guess there’s the remote possibility that he took her last name or they made one up or something? But I’m guessing not.

I mostly agree with the list of recommended Person of Interest eps that’s going around, but it fills me with TRUFAX FANNISH RAGE that people keep leaving out 1x07 - Witness, which is SUPER FUCKING AWESOME and a pivotal moment in a major plot arc.

Speaking personally, I don’t recommend it because I found it really boring.

But also, why would you ever skip “Witness”? I love Charlie Burton’s tragic little face. No, I’m serious! And Reese was so gentle with him! He reminded Reese of Finch! Then at the end they play “Sinnerman”. What is there not to love???

Perhaps shockingly, I was never that into the baby episode. I mean, I guess babies are kind of interesting? To their parents? But even though intellectually I agreed with Reese that it was very important to protect her, I basically did not care very much as a viewer at all.

Reese puts four bullets in the red-eyed thing that used to be Professor Niels and is, apparently, the threat to Stiles Stilinski, before it goes down. It doesn’t stay down. And two of his shots were to the head.

“Nine millimeter?” Stilinski asks him, and sure, the kid has a parent in law enforcement, but when he actually pulls a box of rounds and slides it across the floor to him, Reese is about to start questioning who is the victim and who, the perpetrator in this particular scenario.

“I wasn’t about to run out,” Reese says shortly, and, under his breath, “Harold.”

Stilinski’s got a gun held in both hands now, but no angle, trapped behind the chemistry workbench where Reese shoved him for safekeeping. Reese would prefer he stay that way. “Werewolves, man,” Stilinski says. “You need special ammo.”

“Silver bullets?” Reese asks. He wants to laugh. Professor Niels snarls and leaps over the hood. Reese rolls onto his back shoots twice, but either he missed or the professor doesn’t care.

“Mr. Reese,” Harold says in his ear, urgently, “they’re not silver bullets, they’re wolfsbane. Mr. Stilinski is officially connected either directly or peripherally to nine different wild animal attacks in the last four years, and—perhaps it would be best to take his advice. And his ammunition.”

Reese grunts and starts reloading from the kid’s box while the monster prowls around the projection screen at the front of the lab. “But the big scary werewolf was a nice professor until twenty minutes ago,” he mutters as patiently as he can, “so is this kid the hunted? Or the hunter?”

“Ah,” says Harold, which means he’s got something, he’s data processing. “I just checked his emails for keywords relating to wolves and—it seems, Mr. Reese, that he’s protecting his pack.”
